girlVIRUS 2011

girlVIRUS is about valuing women, respecting women, honouring women’s humanity and actively resisting misogyny in a society that offers up misogyny as the solution to every problem, refusing misogyny in a society that thrives on it. girlVIRUS is about understanding and respecting that fact that all women are different and the ways in which we are oppressed and experience violence are different. therefore it makes sense that the ways we resist will different and we believe strongly in listening to and learning from each other. we believe in chaos and multiplicity, making mistakes and learning from them, rawness, honesty, integrity, messiness. we believe in fuck ups and spelling mistakes, cut and paste, loud guitar, smoking in the bathroom, respecting each other. it feels so fucking good to respect each other. listen to each other. make room for each other. girlVIRUS is about understanding that we all have to negotiate with patriarchy and other oppressive systems just to survive our daily lives. the ways we choose to negotiate are personal choices and we all need to respect each other’s choices because we are human beings and can make choices for ourselves. the same choice isn’t right for everybody. girlVIRUS believes in multiplying choices rather than shutting them down. girlVIRUS believes in harm reduction and treating people with respect. girlVIRUS is never condescending and sees all women not just as ‘victims of patriarchy’ but also as active agents of resistance. we all resist in different ways and each and every one of those resistances is important and revolutionary. girlVIRUS is about stirring things up, making shit happen NOW, action, community, solidarity, support, creativity, communication, expression and a media take over. girlVIRUS is always and above all an invitation to get infected, start your own strain of the VIRUS, be and do you, and we are listening.
